Distraction burglaries

We would like to take the opportunity to remind people that at this time of year it is customary to see a rise in the number of reported distraction burglaries.  Rogue trader incidents decrease due to the darker days and colder weather, but these criminals then commit distraction burglaries taking advantage of the elderly and vulnerable in their own homes.

Bath & North East Somerset has experienced very low levels of distraction burglary over the last couple of years, but neighbouring areas have recently had some crimes of this type.   'Water' related excuses are still the most common way to gain entry into people's homes.

Please be extra vigilant on behalf of elderly/vulnerable neighbours and do not hesitate to call the Police if you are suspicious of any door to door callers.

Help stamp out scams

Shoppers are being urged by Bath & North East Somerset Council to help tackle scams and counterfeit goods by filling in a survey which could win them £25.

The Council is supporting National Consumer Week and encouraging people to complete a survey to share their experiences and attitudes towards scams with the Trading Standards Institute.

Anyone who completes the survey at www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/events/ncw2011-survey.cfm by Monday 7 November will be entered into a prize draw to win a £25 M&S voucher.

The Trading Standards Institute is focusing on sporting fakes and scams during its National Consumer Week, from 21 to 25 November, with the message “Good Sports Don't Fake It!”

“Bath & North East Somerset Council is supporting the National Consumer Week campaign against fake sports goods and bogus ticket sellers in the interests of our residents, visitors and legitimate traders.

“Far from being a ‘victimless’ crime, the sale of counterfeit goods undermines genuine, high street retailers and costs local jobs, not to mention the poor consumers who get ripped off by the tickets that seem too good to be true.

“We hope members of the public will complete the Trading Standards Institute’s survey to help clamp down on scammers and maybe even win a prize – it’s probably the only time you could get something good out of an experience with scams.”

Bath & North East Somerset Council is also working with local sports shops, universities, colleges and sports clubs/associations district-wide to publicise the anti-counterfeiting message.

Twerton PACT

The next Twerton PACT meeting will take place at the newly refurbished Southside Centre Kelston View at 7pm on 12th December.

This is your chance to have a say in what is going on in your community and what you would like to see happening.

It is also a chance to debate with the Police and local Councillors issues of concern.

We hope to see you there.

Halloween relatively quite in Twerton

It seems that Halloween passed off relatively quiet in Twerton this year.

We have not received any complaints about eggs or flour being thrown this year in the Twerton area.

The Police have confirmed that they have not received any complaints so far from the residents of Twerton.

We are pleased that the young people of Twerton have taken Halloween in the spirit ( excuse the pun ) for what it is meant to be fun for all and not intimidation of the vulnerable.

Having said the above if any of you reading this has a different recollection of Halloween then please let the Police or us know.
