Woodhouse Road Flats

We have been working closely with Curo to resolve some of the issues around these flats. On a recent visit we noticed that a large amount of rubbish has been dumped alongside the overflowing recycling bins. We have asked that this rubbish is checked to see if we can find out who dumped it  and then for it to be removed, we have also asked that these bins are more regularly emptied.

The bin rooms at these flats has been a problem for some time now and we can report that some action is now being taken.

The bin room at the rear of Carr House is to be relocated to ensure that it is only for the use of those residents and an area that is used for dumping is having an old mattress removed and will soon be having some bushes planted to prevent and further fly tipping.

We are looking to get some planting carried out in the entrance area of the flats ensuring that they look much brighter.

We will be continuing to work with Curo to ensure that this area is kept up together.

Redland Park

   Redland Park action being taken

We have been out and about in Redland park in the last few weeks looking at items that need to be resolved.

We are pleased to report that the speed tables approaches have all been relaid making driving on the roads much better.

Today we were out again in Redland Park with Curo officers being updated on some of the works that we have asked them to do.

1) Litter picking has been taking place carried out by the probation services and the whole estate looks much cleaner. Two more sessions have been booked to take place and we are hopeful that these can be extended.

2) The new litter bins that we had asked for have now been ordered and we are hopeful that these will soon be in place.

3) A new community notice board will be erected at the entrance to Redland park at the rear of Day Crescent which will be controlled by Curo .

4) The overgrown woodland area beside and below 73 Redland park is to be cleared of all of the rubbish and the brambles will be taken away so the area can be cut as a grassed area.

5) The area behind the garages to the rear of Rodney House will have all the old furniture and rubbish removed.

The above two items should take place next week

6) A number of gardens that have become full of rubbish are being investigated by Curo and will have enforcement action taken to ensure that they are cleared up.

7) The area beside Woodview Terrace is to have the old broken down fencing removed.

We would like to thank Curo for taking the above action and the council for resolving the speed tables.

Street Lights

We have reported the lamp post number 8 between Dominion Road and Freeview road as not working and in need of repair.

We would hope that this light would be repaired fairly quickly as it sits on a dark lane.

If  you are aware of a street light not working then please contact council connect on 01225 394041 it would be helpful if you also had the lamp post number but not essential to hand when you call.

If you know who dumped theses items would you please let us know.

We ate meeting with council officers in the next few days to design a new path that will run across the park from The Brow to Freeview Road and will report on this item shortly.

Allocation of community grants

We are both finalising the allocation of grants made available from the ward councillor initiative fund.

It has been difficult prioritising the many calls for small amounts of money that can make a difference to the community and its residents. We will be announcing during the next week the extra amounts of work that we are able to deliver and will publish them on this blog first.

I have been pleased in the past week to make further amounts of money available to St Michael's Junior school to help purchase equipment to help with special needs pupils.

Unwanted automated phone calls

If you are fed up with receiving automated phone calls then there is something that you can do about it. Calls from and automated system should only be made to you by a firm if you’ve given them permission first.
So if you’ve had an unsolicited automated sales call from like 08432 890 031, here’s the place to lodge a complaint:http://ico.org.uk/complaints/marketing/31.
Don't let them get away with it no matter how plausible they may sound together we can stop these     Nuisance calls.

High Street Twerton

After receiving complaints from residents about long term parking stopping local residents from being able to access the post office we have asked the council to investigate creating several short term parking bays that would allow residents with mobility problems access the local shops.

if we go further with then a full consultation with those affected will be carried out.

We will keep residents informed of progress on this matter.

Kelston View (Bus stop complaints)

Following a freedom of information request from a local resident it seems that the consultation on the layout of the new Bus Stop at Kelston View may not have been carried out with all the residents across the area.

The main areas of contention are not the bus stop itself but are makings in front of the bus stop that are supposed to allow the bus to pull away from the bus stop a little easier, but these seem so unnecessary as by watching bus movements there is no need for these extra markings.

I have therefore asked that these extra markings are removed thus reinstating the two parking places that have been lost.

Bath City Farm Litter pick

Bath city farm will be carrying out a litter pick on 1st February from 10.30am till 3pm.

People are just asked to turn up on the day via the entrance on Kelston View soup and refreshments will also be available for those litter picking on the day.

It is recommended that stout footwear is worn as the ground is uneven and muddy.

Litter pickers usually do a good job clearing the farm land and surrounding roads and hedgerows and the more help that there is the easier the job.

Childrens Centres

Residents have been asking about the Council debate on Children's Centres and what is happening in the communities.

The Bath Chronicle ran a fairly accurate story on what happened on the night and Links are available here for that article.

Woodhouse Road

We have asked Curo to fix the street light that has not been working since early November at Woodhouse Road.

The area gets rather dark at night although you can see the light is not ideal, we have asked that the light is repaired as soon as possible.

Twerton Toilets

We had a good meeting this morning with regards to the improvements to the toilets in Twerton.

We  believe that we have found a way forward in having an improved toilet that is more secure and easier to keep clean that the current one as well as being remotely lockable at the end if the days use.

The new toilet if we are successful and we believe that we will be will be a single unisex toilet that is completely disabled friendly.

By doing this the rest of the building would be available for either commercial use or community use and we have found some one who fits both areas.

So it seems that despite all the protests we may have just got the improvements that we wanted and got the bonus of a community type business to use the rest of the building.

We will of course publish more as the details become available.

High Street Rubbish

Councillor Gerry Curran has asked the council to investigate who is dumping rubbish by the waste bin outside of the Learning Centre on Twerton High Street.

The amount of bags that are appearing at this location is starting to cause concern and we want to resolve this issue before it becomes a major problem.

If you know who is dumping this rubbish then please let us know.

Poolemead Road

Plasti grass has now been installed at Poolemead Road where the area was full of ruts where cars had been pulling off of the road.

The project was paid for by the use of the ward councillor initiative funds made available by Councillor Tim Ball.

This road has been an area that we have needed to resolve for quite some time now and it was part of our six to fix promises before to 2011 local elections.

Councillor Gerry Curran spent a good two hours clearing litter for the park area behind the Centurion public house and the garage area behind at Linley close.

In all Gerry removed several large bags of rubbish from the area.

We have also asked Curo to remove the old Fridges and gas bottles that have been dumped in the garages.

Thank you Don from the whole of Twerton

Don Foster has announced that he will not stand for re-election as MP for Bath in May 2015. Commenting Don said:

“After what will have been 23 wonderful years, this has been a very difficult decision to make. It has been an enormous privilege since 1992 to serve the people of this great city through five parliamentary sessions.

However, my task is not over: there are 17 months before the next election. I have every intention of continuing to do all I can to work with and for local people. I will do my utmost to ensure that Bath continues to grow from strength to strength as a great place in which to live and work.”

In Parliament Don helped our community in Twerton by protecting the pensions of Stothert and Pitt pensioners.

Don has always been there for the residents of Twerton meeting and helping local residents with many issues that often seemed impossible to resolve.

Councillor Tim Ball said: "Don has always been a good friend both on a personal level and as a fellow Liberal Democrat working to help local residents in Twerton".

Councillor Gerry Curran said: "Don is always there when you need him and is always willing to help when there is a crisis he will be sadly missed by the whole community"

Rubbish not collected

We will be chasing the council with regards to the missed rubbish collections in parts of Twerton on New Year's Eve.

Whilst we will be chasing to have the uncollected rubbish removed to be realistic if it is not removed by tomorrow night it probably will not be.

If that is the case then we would suggest that rubbish is taken back in until the normal collection on Tuesday next week.
